All about Lasers

Laser is an acronym of Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Since first introduced to this market by our parent company ELC Laser in 1989, the process is a now well established technology to cut material for a wide range of industrial applications. Laser technology is evolving and increasingly product designers and engineers are specifying laser cutting as their preferred option.

The shift in emphasis from traditional methods to laser processing is due to a number of cost saving factors

  • It’s a very flexible process equally efficient for bespoke requirements and large volume runs
  • Design modifications can be made without undue delays
  • Laser’s can produce intricate contours (Narrow Cuts 0.2mm)
  • Memory store and repeat production option irrespective of time between runs
  • No hard tooling requirements
  • Precision cutting ( tolerance up to +/- .05mm)
  • Capable of processing a choice of materials including mild and stainless steel, plastics, wood and various specialist metals

At MD&C we offer 2, 3 and 5 axis laser processing supported by state of the art Catia design software. Our expertise with five axis lasers and advanced design systems enables us to produce three dimensional products for a diverse range of industrial and mechanical applications at value for money rates.
